Paros Lefkes


Today the population in Lefkes are 900 inhabitants. In the old times Lefkes, were the municipality of Yria had more than 2000 inhabitants. Lefkes keep unchanged its traditional character not only in the way of life but also in the architecture of the houses. Its basic characteristic is the most harmony of the contrast: the magnificent view brings together the hills and the Aegean sea, the typical white washed Cycladic houses stand side by side with neoclassic houses painted pink or ochre contrasting with the blue domes of the little churches or tilled roof Saint Trinity situated at the best vantage point of the village.

It is worth visiting the church with it’s Russian style campanile and the marble temple. Stroll down the narrow paved streets and have a look at the different houses and terraces. Visit the folklore museum with artic rafts of the past and the small outlying churches Saint Nicolas and Ypapandi built among pines.

If you like walking, take the Byzantine path leading to the village of Prodromos pr the monastery of Saint John at the foot of the mountain Saint Pantes. It is also worth visiting the monasteries St. Sunday, St. John Theologos and Thapsana. You can rest at the square of War memorial and let your eyes travel far away, beyond the sea up to Naxos.
